Nashville and Tennessee are your hosts for Marketplace 2006! Nashville was recently named America's Friendliest City! Whether in the concert halls, the shopping malls, the art museums or historical tours, Nashville is a definite crowd pleaser and a perennial hit with groups of all types and sizes.
Nashville is a city with a foundation built on more than 200 years of musical roots. Today those roots have grown firmly into a platform for which the city heralds its signature product - music. Music is the essence of Nashville. It is the ribbon that weaves the city together, intertwining history, arts, culture and sports into one dynamic cultural package. From gospel spirituals and bluegrass to modern pop and blues, Nashville is Music City – the only Music City.
Tour the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, an icon in the history of country music. Known affectionately as The Hall, this $37 million state-of-the-art facility showcases artifacts of which 70% currently on display have never been viewed before. Be a part of the live audience at the Grand Ole Opry as it celebrates its 80th consecutive year of continuous live programming. Stand on stage of the venerable Ryman Auditorium. Known as the “Mother Church of Country Music,” this historic venue was named the Pollstar 2003 and 2004 Performance Venue of the Year. Listen to recordings of Elvis in RCA’s Historic Studio B and see the piano he played while warming up his chords before recording over 250 songs in Music City.
Our state offers a wealth of must-see destinations, headlined by the two internationally known aquariums (in Chattanooga and Knoxville), Nashville's Grand Ole Opry and Elvis Presley's home at Graceland in Memphis. Mix that with a cruise down the Cumberland River aboard the General Jackson Showboat in Nashville, a get-together with giant panda bears at the Memphis Zoo, or a chat with a whittler at the Museum of Appalachia in Norris. Dash through the whitewater of the Ocoee River, speed down the water slides at Nashville Shores, or cheer and stomp from the front row at a Memphis Grizzlies' NBA game at the new FedExForum.
